What is Reiki Healing?
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is an ancient Japanese healing technique for stress reduction, relaxation, and balance throughout the human system. Reiki is commonly translated from the Japanese as 'universal life force energy' - the energy that flows through all things. The focus of this energy healing is to restore overall balance to all levels of being: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

It is a natural, gentle and non-invasive yet extremely powerful method of healing that greatly compliments any traditional medical or psychological treatment you may be receiving. This life force runs throughout energy centers in the body (such as chakras or meridians), nourishing organs and cells and supporting vital functions. When this energy is disrupted by negative thoughts, feelings or actions, illness and disease can result.

Reiki Training
The practice of reiki healing is comprised of three levels of training. Through this training, the reiki practitioner learns how to access energy flow through the hands to heal. Completion of the third level of training results in the title of Reiki Master. Reiki is used to accelerate healing, assist the body in cleansing toxins, balance the flow of subtle energy by releasing blockages, and help the client contact the healer within.

Emerging Acceptance of Reiki Energy Healing
Reiki energy medicine is also beginning to gain acceptance as a meaningful and cost-effective way to improve patient care in hospitals and clinics across America. In an interview with (ABMP) Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals, Dr. David Guillion, an oncologist at Marin General Hospital in California, says, "I feel we need to do whatever is in our power to help the patient. We provide state of the art medicine in our office, but healing is a multidimensional process. I endorse the idea that there is a potential healing that can take place utilizing energy."

What happens during a Reiki Healing Session?
Reiki healing does not involve physical manipulation or the ingestion or application of any substances, but works with the subtle vibrational field thought to surround and penetrate the body. During this fully clothed session, the practitioner places his/her hands above or lightly touching the body. This raises the energetic vibration and breaks up the negativity to heal, clear and restore the natural flow of the life force. The reiki practitioner, trained to access and serve as a channel for the life energy, uses a passive touch that some clients experience as warmth or tingling. Reiki energy flows from the practitioner’s hands to the recipient’s body and energy field, promoting restoration of overall health and well-being.
